03 Aug Mobility Minute #15: Wall Facing Squat
The wall facing squat is a great tool for assessing and exercising the squat pattern. See the below quote from renown Strength Coach Pavel Tsactsouline’s book “The Naked Warrior”.
Wall facing squats are a great #mobilty test. How close to the wall can you get and #squat to depth? —– first part I start with an overextended spine result in in butt wink in the bottom (lumbar flex ion). Second rep I start with neutral spine, allowing me to stay neutral in the entire squat. — also tests shoulder mobility. Can you keep the pvc pipe directly over your midfoot thought the squat?? —————————————————– TheBarbellPhysio.com Improving the worlds of athletic performance, injury prevention, and rehabiliitation. #CrossFit #wod #mobility #fitness #barbell #gymnastics #weightlifting #CSCstrong #functionalmovement #training #charlottefitness #CLTfitness #CrossFitKaiju
The Goblet Squat can make a great correction for those with difficulty maintaining proper positioning during the squat:
Somehow deleted a great before and after video of retraining the squat by using the goblet squat. Cued athlete to get into more neutral core set up position (and used some 90/90 breathing). Used the kettlebell to counterbalance his weight as he descended into the squat. At the bottom we slowly set the KB down and removed hands with cueing to maintain lumbar position. Then returned to the top of the squat. The KB allowed us to get to the bottom. Hold and own that position for a second. Then perform bottoms up squat. Great tool to retrain the movement pattern and had some great, quick success. —————————————————– TheBarbellPhysio.com Improving the worlds of athletic performance, injury prevention, and rehabiliitation. #CrossFit #wod #mobility #fitness #barbell #gymnastics #weightlifting #functionalmovement #training #charlottefitness #CLTfitness #CrossFitKaiju
